Twelve Kern County Schools have been tagged as "persistently low performing" by state education officials based in part on test scores.

The schools on the list are:

  • Bakersfield - Beardsley Intermediate School and Shirley Lane Elementary
  • Arvin - Bear Mountain and Sierra Vista Elementary Schools
  • Buttonwillow Elementary School
  • Maricopa Elementary School
  • McFarland High School
  • Wasco - Semitropic and Palm Avenue Elementary Schools.
  • Boron Junior-Senior High School
  • Rosamond High School.
  • Kern County Community Learning Center.
The schools will have to implement reform measures that could include replacing principals or even closing their doors.

Each school is now eligible to apply for federal improvement grants.

Hahaha. Yeah, enroll them in private Christian schools where they will learn that boys and girls are evil if they touch eachother and it's best to live in fear of a god that doesn't exist. Intelligent!

Wow! GWB's NCLB has worked out just the way he wanted... to destroy the evil public schools. There is a big difference between "accountability" and "punishment." NCLB has driven out the great educators... now what is left for the children? No child left behind has left behind all the children -- there are no schools or teachers left to teach them. I guess the only choice now for parents is to enroll their children in private Christian Schools -- that was NCLB's plan all along...
