Northeast shooting leaves one man dead

Sheriff's detectives are still piecing together a deadly shooting in front of an apartment complex in northeast Bakersfield.

The shooting took place around 4:00 a.m. in the 2600 block of Haley Street.  Haley Street is still closed between Water and Height Streets.

Family members tell us 50-year-old Eric Evans worked as a handyman at the complex. He was out in front of the complex working when somebody approached and shot him. His wife heard the commotion and what happened.

"Right after I heard the three shots, I went to the door and I went down there and my husband was lying in front of the first apartment on the ground dead," said Paula Evans.

Evans died at the scene. detectives have not said if anyone was arrested.
