SHAFTER, CA - We now know the name of a man from Shafter who died Thursday night when his pickup crashed into an orchard. The accident happened about 8:30 pm on Jumper Avenue, just north of Lerdo Highway.

CHP officers say 25-year-old Steven Patterson lost control of his pick-up, struck a power pole, and was ejected into an almond orchard. He died at the scene.

Officers say Patterson wasn't wearing his seat belt and alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

The cause is still under investigation.
