Motion delays manslaughter case

A Bakersfield family hoping for closure, will have to wait a little longer.

The family of Dorothy Walters was hoping the man responsible for her death would finally receive his sentence, but to their dismay sentencing was postponed.

Daniel Espinoza, 23, pleaded no contest to charges of vehicular manslaughter.

At his sentencing Wednesday, his attorney made a motion to withdraw Espinoza's plea.

Police reports said Espinoza was racing down Stockdale Highway in March of 2007 when he crashed head-on into 69-year-old Dorothy Walter's car near Stockdale Highway and Buena Vista Road.

Walters was killed, and Espinoza was paralyzed from the chest down.

Walters' family members said they're disappointed in the development.

Espinoza's attorney had no comment.

Both family's will head back to court June 5th.

Espinoza was charged with vehicular manslaughter but not speeding.
