There's a unique program being used in senior centers across the nation that's helping fight the loss of brain function associated with aging.  Some hope it will prevent them from getting Alzheimer's.

"Take the next 10 seconds to look at these nine objects and try to remember them."  It's a one person fitness class going on. As senior Larry Wood sits in a chair, he's exercising his brain.  He's using the Dakim brain fitness system.  "I think it's very challenging."

"This program will test six different cognitive domains in the brain and you don't know it by playing the games," says wellness  director Karen Lloyd.

Senior centers across the country are purchasing the system for residents because studies show seniors who participate in cognitive activity can reduce their risk of dementia by 35 to 63 percent. "I would like not to get Alzheimer's in my older age," added senior Larry Wood.

A touch screen system designed by a man whose father had dementia adjusts to a person's skill level and changes every day using word scrambles, puzzles and familiar film clips and music from the past.  The Dakim brain fitness system is available for home users as well.
