It's been pounded in our heads, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gets your metabolism going right away in the morning.

But new research suggests waiting to eat breakfast until after you work out, may be the fastest way to lose weight. "When I eat before I workout I kind of feel bloated and lethargic," says David Pettle, Dallas. 

"I wait till after why cuz I get too bloated and I can't do it I like to just have an empty stomach makes the workout better," says Danny Kearns, Dallas. 

And these workout partners may be onto something. 

Researchers in Belgium followed 2 groups of young men for 6 weeks, one group ate a carbohydrate packed breakfast, then worked out ...and the other group worked out and then had the same carb rich meal.While group one gained about 3 pounds, group 2 gained almost no weight.

"Conventional wisdom says and research has shown that within 30 to 45 minutes of a workout is when your body is most effectively using protein that you take in," says Brandon Wahl, fitness expert. 

While hitting the gym on an empty stomach may not be for everyone, Brandon Wahl, the owner of Tread Fitness in Dallas, suggests people eat a little something, like a banana, before a workout. "I'm not saying eat a big breakfast before hand I'm saying get something in your stomach get some energy work your butt off and afterward go eat something to rebuild muscles and lose the fat." 

The study also found that people who waited to eat until after a workout had lower blood sugar levels reducing their risk of diabetes.
