Lisa Kostner is a Bakersfield teacher who has battled weight gain for most of her life. But a plan combining diet and heart has been key to her success.

We focus on what my body needs rather than what the TV tells us to eat. Dr. Anthony Don Michael has developed a plan that combines cardiology and weight loss here at the Advanced Heart and Medical Center. In assocation with Glinn and Giordano patients receive a plan that includes a medical examination that monitors weight, heart and cholesterol, exercise and water aerobics and a nutritionist who provides individulaized meal plans. It's a unique approach that has brought Dr. Don Michael a 95 percent success rate when it comes to a healthy way for patients to lose weight. "For years I was an after the fact doctor somebody had a heart attack I resuscitated now I'm trying to prevent a heart attack prevent a stroke and diabetes."

The meal plans are based on an upside down approach to the food pyramid eliminating most carbohydrates and focusing on proteins and vegetables. Carbs are the only mega nurtrition product that increases cholesterol that causes heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes only thing.

Monica Baca has lost nearly 21 pounds since July. She feels mentally and physically empowered and confident that this time the weight will stay off. "I'm accomplishing a goal for myself and my family and it makes me feel good that I'm accomplishing this."

This plan is covered by some insurance. Doctor Don Michael says some of the factors affecting weight gain for most women over forty include menopause, depression, life style changes and that slowing of your metabolism.
