A local man says a SmartMeter fire shut down his business for several weeks.
Ted Rawles says the problems started when his PG&E SmartMeter caught fire June 24th.
He says it looked like the meter had burned from the inside out.
The fire knocked out power to his business on South Chester Avenue. It was restored last week, after Rawles replaced his electrical panel.
Rawles say his SmartMeter was having issues for weeks.
"It hadn't worked in about three months and they'd been coming by and not getting a reading off it, so they were just guesstimating," said Rawles. "If they would've come out and seen why it didn't work, it probably wouldn't have caught fire."
PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles says the company will fully investigate the cause after Rawles files a claim.
Boyles adds the utility has never had a problem with a SmartMeter causing a fire.
