Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend. But, if you're not into the game here's something else that might catch your attention. Kern County pistachios will be featured in a Super Bowl commercial.

For the past four years, consumers have gone nuts for pistachios. With this year being the best year yet, the company wanted to do something big for their small product, using a big celebrity.

South Korean pop star 'Psy' has become an internet sensation. Come Sunday, he's going to get a little taste of Kern County in a Super Bowl commercial.

This is the celebrity's first commercial. It will advertise Paramount Farms pistachios, grown right here at home.

"Most likely the pistachios you'll see in the commercial will have grown in Kern County," said Andy Anzaldo, General Manager of Grower Relations for Paramount Farms.

It's all because this year Paramount, a company that grows most of its pistachios in Kern County, boasted the best sales they've ever had.

"We felt that we had to promote it in the most incredible way," said Anzaldo.

Paramount won't say how much they spent, but it is their most expensive advertisement yet.

"There's been rumors of millions of dollars and from what I've seen, it costs about just that much," said Anzaldo.

The commercial will feature the slogan 'Get Crackin' like in other commercials they've done recently with Homer Simpson, the Globetrotters and Charlie Brown.

Locals are pumped about the pistachio's popularity.

"Anything that helps the local economy," said Ralph Price of Bakersfield.

"I hope we get a good run on it," said Donna James of Bakersfield. "I think it's excellent marketing for Kern County and pistachios."

"Usually, it's big national companies," said Bob Pierce of Lake Isabella. "It's nice to see something local for a change."

That optimism, Paramount said, is the nuts and bolts of what makes Kern County a great place to grow.

"I don't think anybody in their wildest dreams would have thought pistachios would be in a Super Bowl commercial," said Anzaldo.

The 30 second commercial will appear sometime in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game.
