A Kern County school is being recognized for exceptional health and physical fitness.

Cecil Avenue Middle School in Delano is among nine schools being honored by the governor's office.

The school was awarded the spotlight award from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake Steinfeld, creator of Body by Jake.

The students had to put a lot of sweat into this award by showing their dedication to being physically fit.

Wednesday, a ribbon cutting was held for their new state-of-the-art fitness facility.

"We started showing the kids pictures on the Internet of what they could win and it sold itself. We told the kids if you get your parents to sign off and turn in your calendars, it's yours. And they were, 'let's go,'" said  Physical Education Teacher Ken Dyar.

The award recognizes the efforts of principals, teachers.

Wow we can't afford teachers, books, or pencils but a high tech gym; at least they'll be in shape for manual labor! (Not because they are from Delano but because they weren't prepared for college), lest I be called a racist.... Brian K. Ruff
