Patrick and Silver Farr stroll down the street renamed for their son, Clay Patrick Farr.
A roadside bomb killed Farr in February 2006, a week after his 21st birthday. The solider died serving the country he loved.
"When he was finally deployed to Iraq in August 2005 he got over there and he thought he was in Disneyland," Farr's father, Patrick Farr, said.
Farr said he remembers his son running around the Northwest Bakersfield neighborhood as a child playing army with his friends.
"I always used to kid him, if he ever got a little nick or cut he wouldn't bleed blood, he would bleed red white and blue," the elder Farr said of his son.
For his patriotism and service, Farr's parents wanted Main Plaza Drive, near the Northwest Promenade, renamed for their son who is also a Purple Heart recipient.
"This is a good artery," mother Silver Farr said. "Anybody who shops up here will see his name and everybody who goes down Rosedale or Hageman - all main drags."
The name change took two years and was pushed through the city with the help of the Wounded Heroes Fund, an organization dedicated to remembering our fallen heroes.
"Our goal is to try to make every one of those families loved ones get their names out there in the public somehow," Wendy Porter with the Wounded Heroes Fund said.
Street crews began changing the signs this week on the street Farr used to walk to attend Endeavor Elementary School and later Centennial High School.
"A lot of veterans and Clay was one of them, they do their job and don't say anything and we felt this would be silent tribute to him," Farr's father said.
Clay Patrick Farr Way - a silent tribute for a young man who made the ultimate sacrifice.
