A local political operative and community activist has died.
Al Wagner served as chief of staff for former Democratic Assemblymember Dean Florez until 2006.
He also sat on the board of numerous local non-profits, including Kern Health Systems and the Bakersfield Homeless Center.
According to State Senator Michael Rubio, Wagner was found dead in his bed late Monday.
Rubio, who praised Wagner as an honest and loyal man, says it appears Wagner died in his sleep.
