Local fans wait in line for the midnight showing of "The Avengers"

"The Avengers" opened Thursday at midnight to packed theaters across the nation, including ones here in Bakersfield.

"I'm here for Thor. I'm here to see how he interacts with all the avengers and how they end up saving the world this time," said Lauren Bedford.

Fans dressed up at the Maya Theater in Central Bakersfield.

Analysts predict it could have a record-breaking opening, as much as $170 million.

That would beat the record set last year by the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise.
