It's a place for kids in Kern County to go after school to have fun and staying out of trouble. But after 85-years in Bakersfield, the YMCA may be forced to close its doors.
CEO Clete Harper tells us he inherited $100,000 of debt when he took over the local YMCA, a year ago.
Harper says if creditors don't get paid, the local YMCA will have to file for chapter seven bankruptcy June first.
"We need to raise $200,000. $100,000 of that will go to pay off old debt. The other $100,000 will give us working capital for another year, which gives us time to restructure our operation model and to expand the programs that are doing well for us and we're gonna have to get rid of the programs that aren't," said CEO Clete Harper.
Harper hopes the community will help save the YMCA.
