Hundreds of homes and businesses in west Bakersfield were without power Thursday morning, and Liberty High School students were scheduled to be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. due to the outage.

Kern High School District spokesman John Teves said Liberty was set to be closed because it is not possible for staff to make lunch for students.

PG&E did not immediately return calls, so the size and cause of the outage, and an estimate of when power would be restored, were not available.
