BAKERSFIELD, CA - An inmate at Lerdo jail has died after he was found in his cell unresponsive. Around 8 o'clock Sunday night, detention deputies at the minimum security facility were alerted that 51-year-old Michael Pickering was unresponsive lying on the floor.

Pickering was taken to Bakersfield Heart Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Detectives were called to the scene and are investigating the situation.

Authorities say Pickering was arrested last Thursday and booked for a parole violation.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine his cause of death.
