I realize not everyone on assistance is working the system. I myself was briefly on CalWorks but got a job after only a few months and never went back. However, I think some serious changes need to be made because too many use children to get more money. In my opinon, anyone receiving any monetary assistance should be made to work part time in the fields, doing community clean ups, etc. to help supplement their income and give back to the community. Shift some of the money from direct cash payments to vouchers for transportation (to get to job interviews, search for employment, etc.) and vouchers for child care so parents can search for jobs without having to bring their kids. All benefits should be restricted to a certain time period. I'm just tired of working as hard as I do to support not only my family but also those who don't want to work for themselves. That sets such a bad example to the children in those families. PS- Through my job and volunteer work I have come to know dozens of poor and homeless citizens who have said to my face "why should I get a job when I can live on the streets (or government housing), get free meals and free health care and not have to answer to anybody?" I'm not simply assuming stereotypes are true, I see it daily.

I agree with the other people, that this is not the childs fault in any way. I believe this is the parents fault. They need to teach them about this other government sponsored program called Planned Parenthood, who provide birth control for little to no money. I think it was a joke that they interviewed a soon to be single mother, who doesn't have a job, but she doesn't want to live off our government. Please!! If anything, they need to get the deadbeat to pay child support, regardless if he wants to be in that childs life. Personally, I think that they need to stop all these programs and use the money to make these deadbeats take care of their children!! Also, they need to limit the number of children that these people are going to be having. They can't take care of the 7 they have, but they are pregnant with baby #8. It sounds cruel, but these people need to be sterilized!!

How about pushing a bill to make it a crime to keep having kids if you're a deadbeat! Make it a law that if these women can't support the kids they got then they get fixed or cut off for life!

As a result of entitlement and lack of consequences, we now find ourselves facing these dilemnas. It's not the babys fault. BOTH parents should be working to support the baby. Unfortunately, skirting the system is a win-win for the mommy and daddy. It's not the Ritz, nor is it living-under-the-bridge. Feed/shelter them and they will come. Consequences need to be learned before the age of conception.

Start using these women for clean up work in and around county buildings or some other kind of labor that would help repay the money they bleeding from us the tax payers. This money is not a right, it's a privelage and a loan from us the tax payers. It's that the politicians stop treating our hard earned money as if it's monopoly money. Put those women and men to work, get them of their lazy butts and keep them out of wal-mart riding those poor electric motor buggies.

So I ask, where is Huggie Boy, the “man” responsible for the other set of chromosomes? Why is he not hit up with child support instead of the taxpayers?

Oh my! You have no job, no husband, and no means of support? Yet, you decide this is a terrific time to have a baby? I question your ability to reason. And this so called lawmaker thinks it's unfair to punish the child? I agree. Give this baby to someone who has some sense!

A female can not support the kids she already has so she gets pregnant again so she can not work and expects more tax payer money given to her as a reward? Surprise, surprise there's women working while pregnant, but the difference is, they are not leaches expecting to live off the tax payers.

So, WIC already provides the extra money for second, and subsequent children, but this lawmaker is pushing to give even more taxpayer money away. Boy, am I shocked. Taxpayers are getting stretched to the brink, and our elected officials are on a spending spree with our money!!!
