Court documents reveal one-year-old Sophialynn Taylor had old bruises and scrapes on her head and jaw, and incidents involving the mother's boyfriend may be to blame.

The mother's live-in boyfriend, Jared Ramirez, is charged with murdering the baby girl. Court documents tell the story of a man who said he tried to save Sophialynn, but also of a man who was around when the baby got hurt.

A search warrant said Kern County Sheriff's deputies were called to a Lake Isabella home Saturday morning for a report of a baby not breathing.

The warrant said the mother, Amanda Reese, and Ramirez were in their living room when Ramirez heard Sophialynn coughing and vomiting. The document says Ramirez went to pick her up, but when she went limp Ramirez began CPR.

The warrant reveals when staff at Kern Valley Hospital examined the girl, they found injuries not consistent with CPR. Staff says in the document, the injuries were old and include a large bruise on the back of her head, a thumb-size bruise underneath the jaw on both sides of the throat, and scratches on her forearm, chin and on the back of her skull.

The documents show Ramirez admitted to several previous accidents in which Sophialynn was injured.

The warrant said Ramirez said his dog accidentally bumped into him while he was holding the baby, causing her to her head on the brick fireplace.

The search warrant also said while Ramirez was taking care of Sophialynn, she fell asleep while standing and hit her head on the floor.

Saturday, deputies seized several items from Sophialynn's home including several of her medications, blankets and stuffed animals, as well as a cell phone and laptop.

Ramirez was in court this week. He's charged with second degree murder, child assault and willful cruelty to a child.

The Kern County District Attorney's Office could not comment on this case because they have not yet assigned an attorney.

Ramirez declined our request for an on camera interview.

Honestly this whole thing just makes me sick. Her boyfriend is a POS and once he goes to prison and finds out he's a baby killer he will get his. As for the mom, she should be charged as well. She was suppose to take care of that baby girl. You can not tell me she never saw any signs of abuse. I know if I were to see bruises on my child I would be asking a lot of questions. Why was she even with him when he had piror charges of child abuse? The night poor baby Sophia passed away she was out "trying to clear her head" at the bar. Now she's all over Facebook and bowling riding horses. If my child died a week ago I would still be grieving in my home. Needless to say everyone grieves different but come on. I really hope the DA holds her accountable as well. After all it was her who brought that monster into her home . She failed as a mother. Plain and simple.

Then you have the mothers whos child has already been through this with a live-in boyfriend but continues to have men around there kids. And continues to work in bars and come home late at nights but claims her kids are evrything to her. Quit being lazy and find a regular job so you can be home with your kids during regular times. Yes the mothers should go to jail too, cause when they don't they just turn around and do the same things. Remember the case of nemo and mother cristina gonzalez she famous now because of her son tragity. She continues to have different boyfriends around her kids and wrks at three different bars. I can name 2 since her youngest was hurt. Like REALLY WOW. Grow up! Sad soooo sooo Sad :(

Why isn't the mother being held just as responsible as the boyfriend? It's time to hold the mothers just as accountable since they bring these men into their childs life. And to the biological father, who defended this boyfriend when this was first reported, why in your right mind did you defend him instead of standing by your daughter who was killed?

and correct me if im wrong, but someone who goes out to the bar doesnt just come home and 2 hours later get up to check on their kid..right?? wrong?? also when a child gets hit that hard its not hours later that they start throwing up, i believe the mother was thier at the time of this incident, maybe didnt see it but she was their. i have not seen one thing from the mother about what the bofriend has done. she should be in jail!! not on facebook!! that little girl was HER responsibity...wake up district attorney she needs charges on her too! this little girl needed her mother, and clearly her mother didnt care!

And the moms always say that the baby meant everything to them..... I call bullcrap to that! If that baby meant anything to the mom she would not have allowed this to happen - she would have dumped the guy. The moms end up enamored with these grotesque, horrible bullies and the man is what means the world to them - not the baby!

My thoughts exactly luckyduck. Too many baby's killed by 'moms' boyfriends. The other version of this tragedy was the mother had gone out, when arriving home after 2:00 AM. the baby was non-responsive and someone? called for help.
