Nine employees with the Kern County Sheriff's Department were honored for what they did back on December 6th of last year.

A domestic violence call in McFarland brought members from the Kern County Sheriffs Department together after Deputy T.J. Moore was shot in the face as he responded to a domestic abuse call in McFarland in December. Juan Valdez is facing attempted murder among other charges in the case.

Deputies and dispatchers were commended for their work and Deputy Moore was presented with the Medal of Valor for bravery in the line of duty.

"It's neat when they recognize the members of the department and not just me.  They were there to help me and by my side I feel humbled by them."

Also recognized Wednesday was Sergeant Larry Studer who was honored for his work with the fuel conversion project.  That achievement resulted in a significant cost savings for the sheriff's department.
