A juvenile court judge delayed a child custody hearing for a Bakersfield boy who police say was nearly blinded by his father.

In April, 4-year old Angelo Mendoza Jr. was found naked inside his apartment by neighbors.  Authorities say his father Angelo Mendoza Senior was under the influence of PCP at the time of the attack.

Mendoza is being treated at Kern Medical Center for self-inflicted ax wounds to his leg and his attorney says she has been unable to get him transported to the child custody hearing.

The judge said he wants to wait for the boy's father to be present in court before proceeding.  A judge ordered Mendoza to receive a mental health exam for the custody hearing now delayed until early August.

A mental health exam????????? Are they nuts???????? He was on PCP, he put himself in that state of mind by doing the drug, now he will get off on the charges & do it again because the DA doesn't have the spine to punish him the way he needs to be punished!!! What did the boy do to deserve this???? Nothing except have a loser drug addict for a dad that probably should have been dead from the knife wounds a few years back, the piece of trash that stuck him could have prevented this if he did a better job.

Let's not waste money on a mental health exam. Put him down like the "rabid" dog he is. He is not worthy of breathing the same air as the rest of us. In a perfect world, he would get the help he needs and become a well adjusted hard working member of society. We don't live in that perfect world people. Hmmm let's see would you hire a former drug user that terrorized his own son? And just for kicks let's give him a job at a childcare center. I do believe that people deserve a second chance but, this piece of fecal material has used all of his chances. California don't waste taxpayers money by putting him on death row either. Like Nike says "Just Do It".

I think that Mr. Mendoza really needs a mental health exam. I do not think that he is emotionally stable. He may be bipolar or have some other psychiatric condition. He does not deserve to have his son back ever! I think this is one of the cruelest cases of child abuse I have ever heard of. I wish I could be there when he has one of his court hearings so that I could tell him what I think of him! I work as a nurse in the mental health/addictions field. I am not making a diagnosis but he sounds like he is dual diagnosis if he was doing PCP. My boyfriend who is a social worker with CPS in Los Angeles County says that he never has had any case like this. He could not even read the story and he stated to me that it was gross. Mr. Mendoza sounds like he needs a lot of help and his poor son will probably have to be in therapy for a long time.
