As a parent it's almost impossible to keep your kids from seeing what's going on in the world.
So how do you deal with the questions they may have about gay marriage?
No matter how you feel personally about the issue of gay marriage, local psychologist Dr. Corey Gonzales said you shouldn't shy away from your child's questions or curiosities.
However, how you talk about things with them depends on your child's age and that holds true for all issues from the violence they may see on television to same sex couples getting married.
Dr. Gonzales said how your kids think and feel about things they may not understand, comes down to the way you handle it.
"It's really a privilege being a parent and they need to really think about how they deal with things," said Gonzales. "How they deal with separation from their child, how they view people that are different from themselves. Really be mindful of what you want to pass down to your kids and how you handle these situations. You know we all have a lot of freedoms in society and choose where we want to worship, how we want to live our lives and so forth. So want to help your children prepare for the real world in an educational way."
Dr. Gonzales said you should always monitor what your children are watching on T.V. and seeing on the computer.
Dr. Gonzales adds if you have strong feelings or biases about an issue, you may want to consider having another family member or trusted adult, talk with your kids.
