The Bakersfield Fire Department and the Red Cross are issuing a warning about the potential fire hazards in your own home.
Fire officials say urban fire season is upon us now that cooler temperatures are here.
They want people to be more aware of hazards, especially when it comes to the holidays.
"Maintaining a space heater or using candles properly, not bring a cooking device, like a barbeque to warm the house and emit enormous amounts of carbon monoxide ... These are the sorts of things we want people to be aware of," said Batt. Chief Garth Milam with the Bakersfield City Fire Department.
Fire officials say with the added stresses of the holidays and the economy they are worried that many will cut corners.
They suggest everyone thoroughly check out holiday decorations for potential fire concerns, especially lights.
If your Cristmas lights are old or the wires are frayed, fire officials say you should buy new ones.
