Bakersfield police are looking for a driver who hit a skateboarder late Tuesday night.

Officers say the skateboarder was going east in the westbound lane of Niles Street near Kern Street. The skateboarder suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The vehicle took off.  It's described as a maroon sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 661-327-7111.

I agree with you workinghard. People here are just evil I guess, they have no hearts. Anyone who can hit a person with their vehicle and just drive off is an ANIMAL. Luckily this kid didn't die, but so many people aren't as lucky. I'm really starting to hate Bakersfield. It could be me one of these days, or somebody I love! That's why when I go out walking I pay attention to cars, I look both ways before I cross, AND I wait until traffic is clear BEFORE I try to cross. Too bad that isn't enough, here in good ol' Bakersfield some drunk can actually drive onto the sidewalk and hit me. The thing that really bothers me is that the drivers (who haven't been caught) are all still living their lives as if nothing happened while families are left to wonder who took their loved ones from them. Honestly, I believe the people who take off are illegal aliens and that's why they leave, they're afraid of being deported (like that would ever happen)

Bet the skateboarder will get a $156 fine for riding the wrong way on a street.

What is it with the drivers here in Bakersfield? Almost all of them seem to just drive off. Is there no such thing as morals and a sense of personal responsibility anymore? It is apalling.
