Private First Class Roosevelt Clark was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery after being missing in action for 62 years. This is the same cemetery his parents were buried in however you won't be able to find his parents graves because they don't have headstones, but that will soon change.
As soon as the community found out the fallen heroes parent's were laid to rest without headstones the community stepped up. So now not only will Clark be recognized but also his mom and dad.
Empty grass sits between headstones in Hillcrest Cemetery but they aren't empty plots they're the graves of Sarah and Will Clark. The family didn't know up until a month ago.
"Up until then we didn't know that they had them," said Rennie Hunter, Clark's first cousin.
Then Friday morning before the funeral of fallen solider Roosevelt Clark Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery surprised the family offering to purchase a headstone for both Willie and Sarah Clark.
Hunter was overjoyed.
"I don't even have the words to say. I think it is so wonderful we are so grateful. We just don't have the words to express how grateful we are for their gift," said Hunter.
She said she knows Sarah and Willie Clark would be honored too.
"They would just be overwhelmed. They would just be so grateful and feel so blessed," said Hunter.
Hillcrest said it's the least they could do.
"If Roosevelt were here he would provide that service to his parents so we are happy to step in and provide that service to his parents," said Shelly Arnold of Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
Hillcrest also donated their services to Roosevelt Clark providing the entire transportation and plot free to the family.
