This fourth of July weekend the California Highway Patrol will be out in full force looking for drunk drivers.
The maximum enforcement period has begun and will go until midnight on Sunday. All available officers will patrol the area in hopes of keeping the roads safe this holiday weekend.
Officer Vaughn Cain, California Highway Patrol, "If you are drinking and driving and over the legal limit, you can expect a trip to jail. I would tell everyone to buckle up and be safe. We will be looking for seat belt violations."
Last year over the fourth of July weekend, more than 40 people throughout the state died in traffic accidents.
