A career criminal was back behind bars Monday after, he admits, hijacking a car only hours after being released from prison.
Donte Kevin Brown, 23, admits he committed the crime, but in a jailhouse interview said he doesn't really know why he did it.
Police say Brown confronted two women who were coming out of the Bamboo Cafe, near the Rosedale Highway Wal Mart Sunday night. He threatened them with a pellet gun and demanded their keys.
Brown admits he committed the carjacking only hours after being released from Corcoran State Prison.
He says he has nothing and was just doing what he knows best.
"It was a fantasy I had, so I just lived it out," said Brown.
"I saw two girls get out of the car and I just walked up to them and told them to give me their car keys, with the pellet gun," said Brown.
He wasn't concerned there were people around to see what happened.
"I didn't hurt them,'' he said. The gun ''wasn't real, they couldn't have got hurt, they never could have got hurt. How could I have hurt them with a fake gun? They just got scared, that's all. The gun was fake it couldn't have hurt them," he said.
But police say the women feared for their safety, in fact Monday, they were still too frightened to go on camera about what happened.
After stealing the car, Brown led police on a high-speed chase south on Highway 99 reaching speeds of 130 mph. Police lost the after about 50 miles, but found Brown shortly after when the stolen car broke down.
Brown was booked on charges of carjacking, robbery and being in a gang.
