New details tonight about the heat-related death of a field worker yesterday north of Bakersfield.
Officials have identified that man as 42-year old Abdon Felix of Delano.
Felix died of heat stroke while riding in a truck on his way back home from work.
Authorities say Felix worked for Sunview Vineyards of Delano, and had been working at a field in Arvin earlier in the day.
Officials say his body temperature reached 108 degrees before he died.
Today the UFW held a news conference where they said something more needs to be done to insure the safety of farmworkers in the heat.
Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers union said, "we have lost confidence in the governor and state to insure safety in the field because it's too little too late."
The UFW says three farmworkers have died this year due to the heat.
They are holding meetings tonight in Arvin and tomorrow in Lamont to discuss with farmworkers what needs to be done to prevent heat deaths from occurring.
