He is currently California's insurance commissioner and he's running for governor on the Republican ticket and Friday Steve Poizner was in Bakersfield.  Poizner is a mega-millionaire from the Silicon Valley and an engineer by trade.

He was in town holding a small business roundtable at the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.

Poizner has called for the creation of a "one-stop shop" website allowing the state's entrepreneurs to obtain the necessary licenses and permits for most types of businesses.  He also wants to cut taxes.  "The core of my campaign as governor is to reduce taxes. I want to cut taxes by 10% across the board," Poizner said.

Steve Poizner is running against former ebay executive Meg Whitman and former congressman Tom Campbell in the Republican primary next year.
