Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday have come and gone, but Tuesday the country celebrated a different spending day, "Giving Tuesday." As part of "Giving Tuesday," Dress for Success hosted "Giving Shoes Tuesday."
All day long, Dress for Success asked women to donate work appropriate shoes. The non-profit then gives them to disadvantaged women to help them get back into the workforce.
Red heels, black flats, and even boots are all shoes that Dress for Success will take. The group also accepts clothing donations like suits, as well as money to keep its facility operating.
Dress for Success is a national organization with a newly formed chapter in Bakersfield. Organizers said it's critical to have a store locally because of the economic climate.
"In this community, as you know, the unemployment is pretty high and the ability to find jobs is pretty tight," said Jan Fulton of Dress for Success. "So anything we can do to help women re-entering the workforce, that's what we're here to do."
124 dress stores across the country took part in "Giving Shoes Tuesday." The top five donation stores will receive a free pair of shoes from Naturalizer.
If you couldn't make it Tuesday, you can make arrangements to donate by calling 393-0983.
