It's become a source of inspiration and healing for foster kids in Kern County.

For one week each year, the Royal Family Kids camp takes foster kids to a church retreat near Frazier Park, to mend broken hearts and build confidence in forgotten children.

"My hope for them..is that they could see their dreams." said camp director Kim Martin.

It's a message she and her husband Randy Martin have been delivering for fifteen years at their summer camp.

Foster kids who once were down and out are given a second chance.

"It's almost like it's full circle..to be here as an entire family and serve these great kids together." said Martin.

For one week each year, these foster kids travel to a church retreat near Frazier Park.

They play games, swim, paint and ride horses.

For some it's their first time out of Bakersfield, and for others it's their first time in a loving environment.

These kids have been through it all abuse, neglect and some will be moved from thirty different homes in a single year.

"The background of these kids is so severe with abuse and neglect." said counselor Todd Gall.

"You come up here, and see them smile and the laughter,.it makes me be a better parent for my kids." said Gall.

With tears in his eyes, longtime camper Anthony spoke about his dreams, his hopes for a future.

"I want to do something that shows that I've earned it." Anthony said.

"I don't want to waste my life like my parents, and go to jail, I just want to be a Christian." said Anthony.

Kim and Randy Martin now realize they've built something more than a summer camp, they've built a place where hope lives and thrives.

A place where dreams really do come true, where kids are made whole again.

"I really hope when they leave camp they grab a hole of, there is a future waiting for them." Martin said.
"That there is something bigger then them, they can be anything they want to be."
