A former Kern County firefighter and Tehachapi city councilman was sentenced Wednesday for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy.

Daniel Shane Reed was sentenced to ten years and four months in prison.

He took a plea deal last month, and in exchange, two other charges were dropped.

Reed committed the crime while out on bail, awaiting sentencing for having sexual contact with a 16-year-old boy.

The District Attorney's office says Reed used his job as a firefighter to meet some of his victims.

"I think the evidence showed in the prior case that at least the fire position, being involved with the youth, he used that position to meet some of the kids. He said 'I can help you be a fireman, take you on a ride-alongs', things of that nature," said Melissa Allen, Deputy District Attorney.

Reed will also have to register as a sex offender.
