The husband of Kern County's Human Services Director faces eight misdemeanor charges of illegal gun possession.
DeWayne Cheadle is the husband of DHS Director Pat Cheadle.
DeWayne Cheadle was arrested Friday after officers say, he violated a ten-year ban on possessing a firearm.
Cheadle is a former Sheriff's deputy.
The gun ban was part of his 2003 sentence on charges he fondled a female prisoner at Shafter Jail.
The Bakersfield Police Department searched the Cheadle's home near the Seven Oaks golf course in November following a tip.
But, officers didn't forward the case to the District Attorney's office until this month.
"Because the ten years had almost passed and they wanted to be sure of the charges, we had to do some legal research. There was some follow up information we needed about registration and things along those lines," said Mike Yraceburn, Supervising District Attorney.
Officers say they discovered eight weapons, including two shotguns, a rifle and several handguns.
DeWayne Cheadle is out on a $20,000 bond. He declined to comment on the charges.
He is due in court on March 4th.
