Bakersfield Christian High School celebrated Veterans Day early, with its annual Veterans Chapel Thursday evening.

The Chapel included patriotic songs, a slideshow, and a presentation honoring each veteran in attendance.

This year's guest speaker was First Lieutenant Michael Meek, who has been serving our country overseas since 2008.

Before his tour of duty, Lt. Meek was an educator for 22 years.

He says it's bittersweet coming back to BCHS, where he was principal before departing to Afghanistan.

"Being able to come back and not only tell people, you know, despite the challenges life brings, you have a great opportunity. And, everything good in life is going to cost you something. You just have to continue and continue to work hard and pursue it," said Meek.

In the past six Chapels, BCHS has paid tribute to around 45 veterans.
