The "Occupy Wall Street" protest is spreading to different cities around the nation. Bakersfield residents on Friday will hold a first meeting as part of the "Occupy Bakersfield Movement."

Organizers plan to meet at the Starbucks on California Avenue, just north of Stockdale Highway at 3:30 p.m. From there, the group will move to the corner of California Avenue and Stockdale Highway and begin the first official "Occupy Bakersfield" protest.

Organizers have also set up an "Occupy Bakersfield Movement" Facebook page, www.facebook.com/groups/wearethe99percent

I was kind of hoping to get an answer to my last question, what does this group want the coprps to be accountable for? Would also be nice to hear about how more regulations will make things better, but instead I get the "we are here, we are with the movement, we are confused" speech.

Yes many have made up their mind and are not interested in truth. We are here NOW! Ones that do not simply agree with the movement are not quite ready to be awakened. Unfortuantly some of them are merely confused. Then some are very defensive, paranoid of change to the "system". As the truths are revealed it will be painful for most of the 1%. They will no longer have the sheild of lies to hide behind. The whole world is watching!

I don't know why, but I keep coming back to this, kind of hoping that you'll respond intelligently. I will no longer be your source of information on OWS. You have made up your mind and it is not my desire to change yours or that of anyone else. God Bless you :)

You say "THEY ARE AGAINST THE LACK OF REGULATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY" and also ask if I like paying thru the nose for gas, Well if the regulations were lifted to let the US drill off shore & relax the enviromental constraints in this state especially gas prices would morew than likely come down. As far as the accountability side, accountable for what?

Is it fair that peaceful protesters get beat down with batons and pepper sprayed by police officers? NYPD has received the largest donation in their history from CHASE bank. A peaceful protester in Boston, 74 years old, Vietnam vet, beat by police. Was reported saying he would have voluntarily let himself become arrested. Not to mention he did not show signs of resisting arrested. Even if you disagree with them, does this sound like freedom to you?? I would like to think that if I felt strongly about something, enough to peacefully protest, my right to do so would not result in being beat down, pepper sprayed or arrested. Also is it fair to generalize every protester by the actions of one or a few. Are we focusing on trivial details or are we actually trying to learn something. When the Tea Party protesters were accused of being racist and a college student found that only 6% of the signs were racist, Fox news was so happy to point that out. They could not wait to point out the injustice of generalizing the whole group for what a few did. Now, of course, who would expect anything different, they can not wait to generalize about OWS protesters. Who owns the media, who owns fox? I think you know where I'm going with this. Intelligent people know that we can no longer get real news from our television.

jmabbott888 once again it is more about the power the corporations are allowed to have. Are you aware of the effects their decisions have made on all of us? For example do you like spending 3-4 dollars on a gallon of gas? If you are like most of us then you probably can't even fill up your tank most of the time. If not then consider yourself lucky. Your statement about the purchases made by the OWS only shows how they are NOT against corporations. THEY ARE AGAINST THE LACK OF REGULATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY. They are against the influence they have over our government, which in conclusion makes government officials answer to them, the 1% and not us. And your comment also shows how corporation can sometimes be, well almost, unavoidable. I can not speak for every single person that is protesting, but this is the gist of it. Also did you watch their statement I provided in my last comment? If you really do want answers then LOOK for them instead of trying to act like you know EVERYTHING. Also I agree that corporations do provide jobs, but what about the thousands of jobs being outsourced? Corporations can not even claim that anymore. What about the increasing rate of unemployment???? I think we all know people, if we are old enough, that have graduated college and can not find a job. I know 2 out of 20+ people who have actually found a job relating to their college degrees. These are hard working people who put a lot of hard work, time, and money into their degrees and continue to work hard at jobs they are over qualified for. Some people I know can not even get a job because their degrees make them too qualified. Do you think this is fair? Is it fair that our government answers to 1% of the population??? Is it fair that education and health care are corporations that seek profit above everything else?
