A local organization is giving at-risk kids a lesson in violence-free living.  The Youth Achievement Program hosted a luncheon Wednesday at the Martin Luther King Junior Center in south Bakersfield.

The goal is to give parents the tools they need to help keep their kids out of gangs.   "Parents and civic leaders will take these skills and information and implement various programs to continue our efforts as part of Project 180 to reduce gang violence," said Marque Stansberry, director, youth services.

Keynote speaker for the event was Doctor Joseph Marshall, of the Omega Boys Club in San Francisco. Doctor Marshall is also president of the Street Soldiers National Consortium, an organization dedicated to fighting violence nationwide.
