Loved ones call it an unthinkable crime.
They say 24-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez was a loving father, and devout family man.
That's why it's hard to understand why someone wanted him dead.
Ramirez was killed in the 13-hundred block of Staples Street in Arvin, police said.
The victim's mother, had a message for those responsible for taking her son's life.
"I want to to think about what they did," said Garcila Garcia.
"Because he had a mother, and family," she said. "The person who did this had to have family, think about how their mother would feel if something like this would happen to them."
She spoke with 17 News Sunday from her Arvin home, clinging to the only momento she has left of her son, his pickup truck,
Garcia said, "he loved his truck very much."
And it was on the bed of his pick-up truck where 24-year-old Ramirez was founded dead Friday night, apparently shot three times.
"He was outside talking on the phone, and listening to music and all of a sudden, his mom heard gun shots, she came outside and saw her son dead on the floor." said Maribi Ramirez, the victim's cousin.
They say just one day before he was shot, someone etched these chilling words on the hood of the family car.
It reads "dead".
Family members set up a makeshift memorial at the place where Ramirez was found dead.
Ramirez leaves behind four children, all under the age of five.
For now they put their faith in the justice system, hoping police can find the suspect, or suspects responsible for taking their loved one's life.
Arvin Police say their investigation is ongoing.
The shooting happened in the 1300 block of Staples Street, near Commanche Road shortly after 11:30 Friday night.
