A 30-year-old Bakersfield man and his 72-year-old father were arrested Wednesday, suspected of being part of one of Kern County's major methamphetamine rings.

The men were two of several arrested during raids in Bakersfield, Tehachapi, and California City.

The FBI told reporters Wednesday Armando Meza, was the "big fish" of the operation.

Around 7:30 a.m., FBI agents and police officers from several local departments raided his home at 1003 Sterling Road in East Bakersfield.

At the same time, other locations in the county were also raided, investigators said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Rooney said the ring operated like a pizza delivery service.

"There was a telephone number people would call to speak to, somebody they might not even know who the person was they were speaking," Rooney said.

Rooney said the person would then dispatch a delivery person.

The delivery person would arrange to meet in a parking lot for the drug deal.

Wednesday's bust was the culmination of a seven-month long investigation.

"They had been in operation for quite a while," said FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Dennis Baker.

Gareth Hylla, 32, of California City, was also taken into federal custody.

A fourth person indicted has not been identified.

The federal drug suspects face charges of conspiring to distribute and posses with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Another 19 people face state drug charges.

Other agencies involved in Wednesday's raids and extensive investigation include the Bakersfield Police Department, California City Department, Tehachapi Police Department, and the Kern County Sheriff's Department.
