It's the victim's fault because he was out at 0300? I have to disagree. I work night shift and I'm out all the time at 0300, grocery shopping, riding my bike (with lots of lights), taking the trash out, etc. Last I checked, we didn't have a sundown law here. Perhaps he should have been more careful about with whom he was socializing, but an adult has the right to freely associate and should be able to safely move about within his community regardless of the hour. It would be completely unjust if my family had to listen to people blame me for being victimized because I was "out after midnight, what did she expect?"

the old addage "Nothing good happens after midnight" is proven truthful once again. I'm sure lots of 24 year olds are out at 3am. It doesn't make it good thing to do. If you have a family they are your priority, not partying like a someone with nothing to lose.

Every time someone is arrested it is automatically tagged as "gang" thats probably why the charge was dismissed it was not gang related. Have a heart people. Even though my son knows its not safe to be out late he still does it, it could have been him, he is not in a gang. Accidents happen even to good people. It is not against the law to be out after midnight. My prayers and thoughts go to the family and friends.

a new twist! usually the story goes--he was not a gang banger, he was going to get a job and support all of his kids, he found jesus, he was turning his life around......this time they are claiming he auctually had a job lined up! i guess the other standard claims still stand. lets see, he was out at 3:00am with gang bangers, was shot by gang bangers, but he wasn't a gang banger? walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.......

Nobody should be gunned down at three am. It's not uncommon for a 24 year old to be out celebrating that late. People in Bakersfield can't help the fact that they live around gang members. Does that make them all racist meth addicts? Of course not. Comments , such as " Oh well," show a disrespect for a human life. We need less generalizations and more compassion.

Another story about a young black man gunned down. This story has two twists, though. The young man was celebrating his new upcoming job, not gang-banging. The young man rarely went out. The police believe it may have been gang-related. They don’t know for sure because, as always, most of those at the scene ran away. The young man was picked up a couple of years ago on SUSPICION of gang activities but the charges were dismissed. But that incident will not be dismissed by others. It’s guilty as ASSUMED. The victim can not speak for himself as to why he was there. It’s too late for him and does it really matter now? The opinion of others is generally the worst of. That will not change no matter how hard the family of this young man pleads on his behalf. The only alternative left is to FORGIVE EVERYBODY. As in the immortal words of James Allen, “As a man thinketh, so are his Thoughts”, even a simple "oh well" returns to the thinker. Thoughts return to the thinker 10-fold! (oh well!!!)
