It's the end of another longtime Bakersfield business.  Green Frog Market is officially closing up shop.

The grocery store closed their Columbus Street location in November 2011, but their Alta Vista and Bernard Street store remained open.  Now it will close up too.  The last day is set for January 13.

We spoke with customers and with a Pyrenees delivery man who says he's been delivering there for 25 years. "It's just sad to see a store like this close. There are a lot of people employed in there that have been with them for quite awhile. There's a lot of people in the area who do their shopping here and they hate to see it close down, because that's where they've done their shopping for years, generations."

Green Frog Market has served the community since 1934.

I hope the owners donate the neon frog to the KC museum.

DAMN IT!!! Now I'll have to go to the Albertsons on Mt. Vernon to buy my groceries. Terrible parking, nasty people, and standing in line behind ghetto dwellers using their EBT cards to pay for their purchases.

I am so very sorry to hear about the closing of the Green Frog!!! I have so many wonderful memories of the store, and feel like the workers are more friends and family, then just neighborhood store employees. I have been going to the G.F. since I was a little girl, with my grandparents and parents. Charley and his family were honest and friendly to all of his customers, and Scott, and his family gave the most they could to the store, and customer satisfaction. They were always trying to go the extra mile to bring in what the customer wanted. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that our community is losing a wonderful, historic, traditional, locally owned business that could never be duplicated!

Very sad to see The Frog closing. The Hair family always went above and beyond to provide great customer service. Anytime I asked Scott or Tyler about a product they always followed up on my request. Truly the end of an era.

It is very sad to see this store close. Green Frog has been an east side favorite for years. I guess it is bound to happen with Walmart's cut throat pricing and the current ecomony. I think we will be seeing alot more companies closing due to economy. California is the worst place to run a business. Sad sad.

Not surprising since the current generation running Green Frog are complete idiots! Too bad, they were great stores of years past.
