The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 4.3 quake struck at 12:23 p.m. Saturday about 9 miles east southeast of Maricopa. Kern County Firefighters say there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Kern County quake came less than an hour after two moderate earthquakes shook an area west of El Centro in the Imperial Valley.  A magnitude 5.0 quake struck just after 11:30 Saturday morning.  It was centered 16 miles west southwest of El Centro.  That was followed by a magnitude 4.7 temblor 15 minutes later in the same area.
