Shafter Sen. Dean Florez marked the completion of the railroad crossing at Merced Avenue and Highway 43 Monday by presenting commemorative rail spikes to the agencies that worked to make the improvements possible.

At Monday's dedication a woman whose husband was killed at the rail crossing told of her feelings about the new crossing arms.

"It makes me feel great,'' Gretchen Woodruff said. ''No one else will have to go through this tragedy. Because it's tragic. It's trauma.''

With the completion of the crossing arms at Merced, all five rail crossings along Highway 43 have crossing arms.

Honorable DEAN FLOREZ - Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're genuine, personal efforts to help us - are appreciated AND VALUED! Again, and again - I keep asking - where is Kevin McCarthy???? Why isn't he ever here - except for photo opportunities??? Because he is where the money is . . and THAT IS NOT ABOUT THE CONCERNS OF YOU!
