Police are investigating a crash that sent one of their own to the hospital with moderate injuries.  Bakersfield Police say Officer Jason Mears was in his patrol car Friday night. That's when a car driven by 25-year-old Jose Hernandez of Bakersfield heading eastbound on Monterey Street, collided with the parked police car.  Several marked police cars were parked on Monterey Street at the time with their overhead lights flashing.

Mears sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center where he's listed in good condition.  In the back seat of Mears' patrol car was 28-year-old Michael Marrufo in custody in the back seat.  He was treated for minor injuries.

Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of felony DUI and driving with a suspended license.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bakersfield Police at 661-327-7111.

Put this in your " Pension disability retirement" article. It seems every other week a cop gets T-BONED on his motor or patrol car. The only people on the streets at 2 am are cops and drunks

Anyone with more information is asked to call the Bakersfield Police.......How much more information do you need? Didn't they have several police officers there? They must have forgotten to get some key information. Now Jose will sue the city because there was a police car in his way.

Only arrested for DUI? Driving under the influence, driving without a license and causing bodily harm to a police officer as well as to the person in custody in the patrol car. Will probably be plea bargained to driving without a license.
