phlodel, good idea, but not realistic. Littering, or passing a new ordinance outlawing going thru the recycle bins, will be nothing more than an infraction or very minor misdemeanor. That means the police will have to witness the offender committing the "crime" in order to take action. And there are a lot more homeless people and tweekers out and about looking for cans than there are officers on the street. And the officers have a lot more important things to do than chasing trash diggers.

They need to pass an ordinance that makes it a crime to pick through the blue bins when they are out for collection. Trash pickers will have a field day and leave an awful mess. At least enforce existing litter laws.

Do you recycle cardborad, food boxes, jars, Starbucks cups, yogurt cups, etc? If you do more power to you. But if you don't, and most likely you did not know that all of the above and more is recycleable, you can put it in the blue recyle bin. Do you have room in your trash bin every trash day? Well, some of the items you throw in the trash can go in the blue bin and give you more room in your trash can. If you think about it for just a minute, you might see a postive side. I don't think the city is expecting to find that the residents are using it for their aluminum cans and plastic bottles. It is so much more than that.

I think recycling is great. It is not about who is making money and who has to pay. I really doubt if anyone is getting rich off of this. It is something that needs to be done. Most people, I including, are not going to recycle items that are bulky or do not give us a money return. Face it, Americans are lazy and somewhat selfish. Personally I could care less if I have to pay $36 a year for the bin. If this helps save the earth for our future generations andthe animals, I am all for it. Hate to tell you but global warming is real. It is not a myth and it is affecting all of us. Research the artic animals with the panda bear being a good example. OK. I am my box. Bash me, I can take it.

Ah, the State of fruits and nuts passed another bill to demand that we reach a laughable level of recyclable materials by some defined year. Of course they mandate it, charge us for the pick up and then make a profit off of the barrels and the recycling. Yep, gotta love those fruits and nuts in charge.

Sure they passed it, they put the item on the agenda so far down, #26 that most of us sat there for hours. It was 6:00 when I had to leave and they were still discussing item #6. They can take those blue bins and shove them. Why is Bakersfield city getting them at no charge, but the county has to pay? County Council are communist!!!!!!
