After some heavy lobbying, Kern County may receive more prison money this year.

The Fresno Bee reports the state budget proposal released by the governor last week identifies a larger-than-expected 77 million dollar reserve for prison realignment, the program that shifts state prisoners into county jails.

County leaders have complained we receive a far less proportional share of state funding.

The prison money is bigger than anticipated because of growth in state sales taxes and vehicle licensing fees.
