Two correctional officers from Wasco State Prison have been identified as the couple shot and killed inside their northwest Bakersfield home.

Andrea Plaza-Santacruz, 38, and Angel Santacruz, Jr., 44, were husband and wife and leave behind five children.

Detectives say a child playing in the backyard of their home in the Redwood Classics neighborhood, heard the gunshots and found the couple inside.

Mommy3, I have to disagree with you. My husband handles working with these scumbags very well, and doesn't "need alot of counseling due to the environment"...It's all about leaving work at work, and looking at it like any other job. He knows he's working with the worst of the worst, but it doesn't stress him out. Your comment bothered me, because the way you posted it made it sound like their career was the cause of what happened. Corrections is stressful, but so is being a bus driver, being a waiter, being a full-time parent, and so forth. It's all about communicating with your spouse how your day was at work, and not holding stress in. I highly doubt his line of work caused him to kill his wife, and then himself. And as the old saying goes, Guns don't kill people, People kill people. Thank you.

This is a terrible tragedy! We have been praying, and will continue to pray for the entire family, especially the children involved. For Angel to have killed his wife, there must have been more involved than just "a little argument." The truth will come out. However, whatever it may be,nothing that Andrea did, justifies her being murdered. This horrible tragedy is an entire loss for everyone involved.

This is such a great loss to the family and community. Both Angel and Andrea were devoted and supportive parents and were such a fixture to the Frontier High school wrestling team. There were at every wrestling match supporting their daughter taking pictures of the team, and providing them w/ food, drinks and relaxation in the RV between bouts. They will truly be missed and were very much appreciated. I just pray that their daughter, son and the rest of the Frontier wrestling team remain strong and continue on with their goals because that is what Andrea and Angel would want for them. It will be hard not having them there next year but I know they will always be with us in spirit, cheering the team on. God Bless their souls. R.I.P.

This is so sad! Was there any relation to their career and those who killed them? Ie; a former convict/inmate? My husband is a C.O. for C.C.I.
