The Los Angeles law firm that represented O.J. Simpson now represents the family of a former NFL player shot to death Sunday by a Kern County Sheriff's Deputy.

A representative of the Johnnie Cochran law firm was in Bakersfield Tuesday afternoon. Attorney Brian T. Dunn says David "Deacon" Turner was killed for no legal reason and the county will have to answer for his death.

Meanwhile, Turner's son and daughter were both arraigned for allegedly threatening officers after they were told their father had died from his injuries.

"This family wants justice," said Dunn. "The shooting of an unarmed man is going to get the attention of this law firm where ever it happens."

Former NFL player, David Lee Turner was shot by a Sheriff's Deputy Sunday morning after buying beer at a gas station in east Bakersfield.

Authorities say Turner hit a deputy in the head with a bag containing two 24-ounce beer cans before being shot twice.

Shortly after the shooting, there was another confrontation at Kern Medical Center.

"Everybody was mad and saying 'f' the police," said Turner's cousin Ledarrius Davis.

Davis was in court Tuesday as Turner's children Ahmad Rashad Turner, 25, and Whitney Turner, 24, were arraigned.

According to authorities, the Turner family became distraught when they were notified David had died at KMC Sunday morning.

Both Ahmad and Whitney were arrested for making criminal threats. Whitney was also cited for hitting a deputy in the face, which she denies.

"How can you take somebody to jail after losing their dad?" asked Davis.

Dunn says he's trying to get the Turner family some answers.

"The impact of this death has completely shattered this family to the core, and it's worse because they're not being told any details about what happened."

The Sheriff's Department says the investigation is ongoing.

shorty, I have heard of people being patted on the back, but never padded on the back. What is that?

I don't think the officer needed to use deadly force. Why didn't he use his tazer or baton? My guess is that the officers here in Kern County are trigger happy. We need to weed out those type of officers. I'm sure, like always when they go through the shooting review panel the officer will be found within guidelines, padded in the back and kill again soon. So sad. I'm just sick and tired of these kinds of officers. I hope the Turner family sues the crap out of the officer, department and the county. Officers in L.A. don't even use deadly force like they do here. They beat you to a pulp like Rodney King.

momof3, where did you get the stupid idea that law enforcement is taught to shoot to kill? That is NOT true. They are taught to shoot to STOP a threat or STOP a fleeing suspect under very strict circumstances. If the shot/s result in the persons death, that is just one of the possible outcomes. They can also shoot in order to stop a fleeing suspect, under very strict circumstances. True, they are taught to aim for center mass, or under special circumstances, the head.

USMCVET, Were you present at this tragedy? No? Well, neither was I, but I can assure you I know more about the law than you think. I can also read and educate myself on issues. A person can be detained for investigative purposes without being arrested. Being told you're not under arrest doesn't mean you are no longer detained and are free to leave. I appreciate your service to our country, but if you think your going to impress me or others with your resume...think again my friend. You obviously aren't a law enforcement officer and eight years in the beloved corps as an MP obviously didn't teach you much. Turner chose to do something stupid and he chose poorly. I'm not wearing bias glasses either my friend. Being in the corps, you should recognize 3rd world mentality. Some of the moronic comments here are so ridiculous the people making them have a 3rd world mentality. In other words, no common sense. However, being an MP as you say you were, I can understand your lack of knowledge. Next time, try recon.

GRSX5- Law enforcment is NOT taught shoot to wound/disable. Where ever did you get a stupid idea like that. The only thing taught is shoot to kill. You aim for center mass, as it is the largest target and holds the vital organs. You don't pull your gun unless you are ready to pull the trigger and take a life. TIMEC- Do you have anything but the race card to throw out there. That seems to be your only concern. Damn the race card is OLD and way OVERUSED. The deputies didn't shoot him because he was black. This had everything to do with a person made a stupid choice in assaulting the officer and therefore chose his own death. The same thing would have happened if he were white and then you people would not be throwing such a fit over it. Before you continue calling everyone a racist for believing our officers over the other criminals, perhaps you should check out the big racist chip on your own shoulder.

So Murph Hypothetically speaking...What if the hit over the head never occurred? How you would feel about this "incident"? Would you want the cops to fry? Are you just happy they disposed of another black man? Just curious?

That's awful a police officer thinks he can get away with murder, but doesn’t protect his citizens with the same respect he thinks he deserves. My husband got hit over the head with a pool cue and had to go to the hospital and the police found out who this man was and didn’t charge him with anything, they said "it would only be a misdemeanor,” and dropped the case! I guess my husband should have shot him and then it would be ok right? Lead by example!!!!

@missinglink, you my friend need to take off your Bias glasses off. tell me how turner did something stupid? he was approched by sheriffs officer's and after turner answered their questions he told them if he was being arrested and the sheriff said NO, then proceded to walk away, why would the sheriff continue to follow him and harrass him???just let him go about his way. I was in the Marines for 8 years and 2 of those years workin with the MP unit and also assisting the San Diego PD it is just sad how the BPD and the KCSD works.
