The Bakersfield City Council will make final steps today to formally take over the city's redevelopment agency. The last step is acquiring the agency's debt.
Last month, council members voted to dissolve the city's redevelopment agency. That's because, as of February 1st, redevelopment agencies across the state will be no more due to a new budget-cutting law.
Money from the agency is responsible for city revitalization projects like the federal court house, Padre Hotel, and Mill Creek Park.
