A new program open to those who want to finish their education, had its first student graduate Thursday.

The program, Farmworker Institute for Education and Leadership Development, has 120 students enrolled in a high school curriculum. The charter school has skill centers in Arvin, Lamont, Shafter and Wasco.

Thursday, the school graduated Christian Staine, who received his GED.

"You can't go no where without your diploma. And my wife and my daughter kept me going," said Christian Staine.

Staine enters the military on Monday.
