A Texas truck driver has been charged in connection with a crash that took the life of a Tehachapi man.

In August, police say 38-year-old Heath Crowder was headed east on Tehachapi Boulevard near the Highway 58 on-ramp, when the driver of a tractor trailer made a left turn in front of him.

Crowder hit the semi and died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, Deborah van Dyke, 52, was not injured.

She faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge.

jrc, if the truck driver made a left turn in front of an approaching motorcycle, the driver should be looking out of the front windshield. The side mirrors would not show approaching traffic. That's one of the most ridiculous statements I have heard in a long time. And the charging D.A. obviously felt this was more of an accident than a reckless act, which would possibly explain why it was filed as a misdemeanor. Why don't you go to Craigslist and post you rant under the "Rant and Rave" section.

this so called professional driver kills a person and gets charged with a misdemeanor???? i wonder what the family of the lost loved one thinks about our criminal system now, notice i did not say 'justice system' all this driver had to do is look in the mirror, [those shiney reflective things on both sides of any truck] and see if the roadway was clear. well maybe put the cell device down also, we will never knoe on that one. if you are going to call yourself a pofessional driver, you gotta be one. and yes i have driven otr for many years.....i am sorry that this family lost a loved one, due to incomptenancy of the so called professional driver. misdemeanor??? for murder, this could be the new liberal motto............
