Local leaders call it a promising sign of an improving local economy. Wednesday night, Bakersfield police, city fire, and the Bakersfield Public Works Department will all present their budgets to the city council.
And all three departments are set to show increases in staff and funding.
According to The Californian, city staff says cutbacks over the last few years will allow them to hire new people and make more road repairs.
The paper reports the Public Works Department would get an 11 percent budget increase.
